BOSTON 4/20/2020 - HERE I COME.
I still can't believe that on April 20, 2020 I get to run the Boston Marathon!!
AND what makes it even sweeter is that I get to make my miles count for something bigger than just myself.
I truly could not feel more honored to have the opportunity to run on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester. An organization that not only played a huge role in the lives of my family members when they were growing up but an organization that continues to inspire, enable and positively impact so many youths in the Dorchester community.
Many of you know how special the city of Boston is to me, specifically Dorchester, as this is where my Dad grew up, where a lot of my family still lives, and where I have spent a lot of time throughout the years. It's honestly hard to even put into words how much this means to me to be able to participate in the race and how excited I am to be able to give back to an organization that I am proud to represent.
I am extremely grateful for every donation, small or large, know that you are helping make a difference.
Thank you SO much in advance for your support. I appreciate you!
Be our heroes and support our 2020 Marathon Team!
Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester is an award-winning youth development agency that has provided outstanding services to Boston’s inner city youth for more than 45 years. Their mission is to inspire and enable all young people, from diverse circumstances, to realize their full potential by providing opportunities for personal growth to become contributing, caring and responsible members of the community.
We provide a safe haven to over 4,000 youth of all abilities annually. Our programming supports youth from infancy to high school graduation to ensure they enter kindergarten school-ready, progress from grade to grade on time, and graduate high school ready to enroll in a post-secondary program. We operate three sites and offer over 200 out-of-school programs year-round in the areas of education, college and career prep, art, music, film, character and leadership development, health and life skills, athletics, aquatics, and social recreation. While the yearly cost of our services is $1,900 per child, members pay just $5 in annual membership dues, with scholarships available to those in need.
Through our Healthy Meals Program, we serve free, nutritious meals to more than 1,000 children annually. Our kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner five days per week year-round.
During July and August, our Safe Summer Streets Program brings over 300 at-risk teens into a safe, positive environment which offers job opportunities, drop-in activities, field trips, and free time with friends. We extend our operating hours until 11:00PM five nights per week and give participants a ride home at the end of the night.
Project B.I.N.D (Boston Inclusion Network for Disabilities) is an agency-wide initiative to foster the inclusion of children of all abilities in Club programs.
As part of our focus on strengthening families, empowering women and disrupting the cycle of poverty, last year BGCD established the LIFT (Lifting Individuals and Families Together) Program which assists families in reaching financial goals through meaningful coaching.
