In November, I'm running the Madison Marathon. I'm using this opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Mile in My Shoes (MiMS).
I just completed my first cycle as a run mentor with MiMS, running alongside residents at one of the local VOA resident reentry centers, with men and women transitioning back into our communities after incarceration. MiMS mission is: we run together to change perceptions and change lives.
Their mission is personal to me, as running has been transformational in my own life. I spent most of my life telling myself I wasn't a runner, telling myself that I wasn't strong enough or athletic enough. That I wasn't good enough, that I wasn't capable or deserving of achieving great things. Running has changed that for me. About two and half years ago, I started running regularly. I began trudging through a couple miles, slowly adding more and more. I've pushed myself and my body on distances I used to tell myself weren't possible for me. I started to see that I am capable, I am strong, and I do deserve things that I'm willing to work hard for. Not just in running, but in my life. I know the transformative power of running because I've experienced it. MiMS is working to bring that transformative power to people who are facing barriers in their life. People who are also strong, deserving, and capable of changing their lives. MiMS provides them with an opportunity to see that in themselves.
I'm asking for your support for MiMS as I train for my biggest challenge yet. Help me bring the transformative power of running to system impacted people and people experiencing homelessness in the Twin Cities. You can read some of their stories here: http://www.mileinmyshoes.mn/our-members/
My goal is to raise $500 by November 10, marathon day! Your donation brings the power of running to new people by providing gear and race entries for our members:

• $25 pays for a running shirt and shorts.
• $35 sponsors one Resident Member runner in a 5K race.
• $50 buys a pair of running shoes for a MiMS runner.
• $75 covers the cost of a Garmin GPS watch for an Alumni Member.
• $80 sponsors one runner for the City of Lakes Half Marathon.
• $110 sponsors one runner in the Twin Cities Marathon.
• $150 covers all the gear: hat, gloves, shirt, shorts, and shoes.
