On January 19, 2020 Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the oldest historically black ELCA Lutheran Church in the continental United States, will celebrate its 132nd anniversary as a faith community in New Orleans' Central City neighborhood. Called to follow the example of Jesus, who fed and ate with anyone and everyone, and to renew the best traditions of our heritage of hospitality, on March 1st Bethlehem will begin a new program called Community Table. Every Sunday after our worship service, we will serve a free home-cooked meal at Community Table that’s open to anyone.
Community Table is about more than serving a meal, it is about building community around food, grace, and friendship in a world hungry for all of those things. In order to bring this effort to life, we need to raise $2500 by Mardi Gras, February 25th. That money, along with a grant we’ve gotten, will provide the seed funding needed to serve meals for 3 months.
Amazingly, we’ve found a donor passionate enough about starting Community Table to match every dollar we raise, which means hitting our goal will secure funding for 6 months of Community Table.
Please join us and give what you can as we set our Community Table. Every $4 raised will provide one home-cooked meal and the opportunity for connection and community-building. To give online, visit www.charity.gofundme.com/bethlehemNOLA.
