This means a lot to me to be able to run this race in honor of my Dad. He would always joke and give me a hard time for paying to run and ask why I would want to put myself through it. I was always able to find him at the finish line though.
As a Veteran, he proudly spent a lot of his time volunteering at the VFW as District Commander, and Post Quartermaster. It is my passion now to follow in his steps volunteering for those who proudly served and are currently serving our country. I am reading of too many taken away from us too soon on our own soil.
It is estimated that 1 in 3 Veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from an invisible wound, such as post-traumatic stress or major depression – yet only 50% who need mental health treatment will receive care. The Veterans and Service Members behind those statistics have names: they are our family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors.
Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program, is dedicated to healing the invisible wounds for Veterans, Service Members and their Families through world-class clinical care, wellness, education and research.
Please support me in participating in the 10-Year Anniversary of the Run to Home Base presented by New Balance on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Fenway.
Funds raised go directly to the life-saving care and programs that Home Base provides to Veterans, Service Members and their Families, at NO COST.
100% of your donation will help provide life-saving care and support for the Veterans and Families served at Home Base.
