I am participating in this year's Penguin Random House Global Walk in support of Barbershop Books. On Friday, June 14, 2019, Penguin Random House employees will walk - in teams and individually - along the Hudson River Walk.
Every step I take on the walk will help nurture young readers from underrepresented communities.
Developed in Harlem, Barbershop Books is a community-based program that creates child-friendly reading spaces in barbershops and provides early literacy training to barbers across America. They leverage the cultural significance of barbershops in Black communities to increase boys’ access to culturally relevant, age appropriate, and gender responsive children’s books and to increase out-of-school time reading among young black boys.
With your support, we can help Barbershop Books create an environment that fosters a passion for reading.
