I am a runner - liekly to the surprise of many of the people that knew me before I became an adult. I run for many reasons, one of the most important is to prove to myself that I can do what I set my mind to, and maybe that will make a difference to somebody else. My mom passed away 10 years ago in a car accident. She was a middle-school teacher. She would often tell her students to "be the change". We all know this is a well-known quote from Gandhi but my mom really tried to make it real for her students. She hosted fundraisers at school, and personally donated herself, to support an orphanage in Kenya. 'Be the change' isn't some quote you see on a poster or in a meme. It's actionable advice. She wanted those kids to know that they can acheive whatever goals they set their mind to, and that it could make a difference.
In Novemeber, I'm running the Rock n' Roll Las Vegas half marathon. I've created this fundraising page to raise awareness about Tusk, who has sponsored me for this race. Tusk is a registered charity that has dedicated itself to hosting and sponsoring programs to help the continent of Africa and it's people in many different ways. It alligns with many beliefs I hold dear to my heart: social activism and equality, global education, environmentalism, and wildlife welfare. Please click on the available links to learn more about Tusk. If you feel so compelled, I appreciate any donation you feel you can give to support Tusk and all their endeavours. I've set a goal of reaching $1000 before race day, November 11th. Please only give if you can afford to, and if you can, you're helping me enact part of the change I think we would all like to see happen in the world.
