THE STORY: Typically, each spring, the Associate Board fundraises for the Bus Campaign, which is a fundraiser that supports paying for student transportation to and from soccer games on Fridays. Unfortunately, things are a bit different this year, due to the risks and concerns surrounding COVID-19.
Due to Chicago Public School closures, Urban Initiatives was forced to suspend all programming across the 50+ school communities typically served. That means that the over 10,000 students served by Urban Initiatives will not get to experience weekly game days, participate in practice and engage in after school activities with their friends. After serving Chicago’s schools faithfully for over 15 years, it is not just felt in the hearts of our staff and community but is going to have significant ramifications for our team members and students. This is where you come in.
Your donation will directly impact the students of Urban Initiatives. By providing even as little as $10, you will help to provide virtual programming for the following:
- Social-emotional learning and play-based curriculum for elementary school students
- Social-emotional learning and high school readiness curriculum for middle school students
- College and career readiness curriculum for high school students
ABOUT URBAN INITIATIVES: Urban Initiatives is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that uses the power of sport to transform communities. Our model offers our participants a continuum of programming in which each stage builds on the learning and growth offered in the previous stage. Through engagement in our work, students start as players, become young leaders in their communities, and are guided to success in high school and beyond. We take a collaborative, whole child approach to development and work with parents, teachers, and community stakeholders to empower children to reach their full potential. We create a diverse and inclusive environment, one in which participants are invited to join our teams, regardless of skill level, and engage with their peers through broad, citywide networks.
