Bees in the D was founded in 2016 by husbands Brian and Brian, and is focused on spreading awareness around the importance of the honey bee and other native pollinators!
We see amazing potential with so many empty spaces like rooftops, balconies, and vacant lots. It's exciting to see the abundance of urban gardens and green spaces and we know the vital role honeybees will serve as residents of Detroit.
Bees in the D has grown from 6 hives in 2016 to over 160 now in 2019. We partner with hotels, event centers, restaurants, schools and businesses throughout the Metro Detroit area and into Canada to build and maintain hives and honeybee highways. We also work with local children's groups, scouts and leagues to teach Detroit's children the importance of pollinators in our world.
Each set of hives costs $2500 to build and maintain for 1 season. We need your help - please join us in the QL Community Challenge to raise money and save our bees!
