Thank you to the community for your incredible support! In less than a month we surpassed our goal. In light of COVID-19, we are keeping the fundraiser live. Any donations received will allow us to offer our queer artist community advance pay for events that have been cancelled, and increase budgets for future events when we return. Thank you for your support!
BeautyBoiz, a project of Forward Flux Productions 501(c)(3) nonprofit production company, is raising funds to support our 2020 programming. We have just lost our permanent producing home at Fred Wildlife Refuge (thanks gentrification!) which included our storage, and we are asking the community to help us stabilize as we look for a new home, while still producing at various venues throughout Seattle.
BeautyBoiz has produced over 40 events throughout Seattle over the past two and a half years. Previous highlights include the headlining stage show at the Red Dress party 2019, headlining the Fountain Stage at PrideFest 2019, our annual Halloween party BeautyBoiz go BOO which turned five in 2019, and more. We have partnered with local queer talent to provide free and extremely subsidized media production, photo shoots, and production training and assistance including Michete (music video and production support) and CarLarans & Randy Ford (music video), and we have assisted in the production of many projects that elevate local POC / QTPOC / LGBTQIA communities such as launching the “Bang the Gong” Asian drag show, The Big Queer Talent Show with Lifelong and more. We pay special attention to diversity and representation in all levels of our hiring practices, working with intentionality to create a safe space that reflects the diversity of our community. In 2019, BeautyBoiz provided nearly 200 paid opportunities to the local queer community, and of those: 56% went to POC performers, 12% were trans, 22% were female, and 24% were non-binary.
Our mission: BeautyBoiz cultivates and elevates LGBTQIA and QTPOC voices and provides a safe space for queer, POC, and ally audiences to gather together and express their unique creativity and beauty.
In 2020, BeautyBoiz will continue our work elevating the local queer community through events and media production, and providing paid opportunities for local talent. We will begin the search for a new home for our programming, while expanding our partner productions at venues such as Monkey Loft, Neumos, Century Ballroom and more.
Donated funds are tax-deductible as allowed by law, and will support the general operating costs of running BeautyBoiz. We are consistently one of the highest paying producers in town and hire up to 20 artists per event, but ticket sales do not cover all of our expenses and we have often lost money on events and cut producer stipends to allow our artists to be paid. In 2020, we are working towards paying our dedicated, queer production staff (allowing for long-term sustainability), and this initial seed money will allow us to cover our overhead administrative costs while continuing to pay our artists at the current rate (and offer raises). Thank you for investing in the local community with a donation to the BeautyBoiz project!
