In 1872, Battle Creek, Michigan, became the birthplace of Seventh-day Adventist education. Today, the Seventh-day Adventist Church has associations with over 8,000 educational institutions, operating in 100 countries and serving 2 million students worldwide. After 147 years of serving students in Battle Creek and preparing young people for the mission fields of the world, the City of Battle Creek itself has become a mission field.
In the past decade, Battle Creek has weathered a global recession, which has dramatically affected students’ ability to afford the tuition costs of a Seventh-day Adventist education. Today, the poverty rate in Battle Creek is a staggering 22%. Many current and prospective families strongly desire a Christian education at Battle Creek Academy (BCA), but because they are temporarily challenged to meet basic financial needs, they cannot afford the cost of tuition.
BCA joins all Adventists in the belief that an SDA Christian education should not be only for families with the personal financial resources to afford it. Battle Creek Academy is seeking your financial support to bridge the tuition gap for elementary and high school students at BCA. Currently, 80% of BCA students receive tuition assistance, of which 36% are immigrants or refugees seeking a new life. Families in Battle Creek are looking for hope and a quality life for their children, which includes teaching them about the love of God; many of our students hear of salvation through Jesus for the first time at BCA.
Would you please prayerfully consider making a financial donation to BCA? You have the opportunity to help serve students who would never otherwise be able to attend a safe, nurturing, and Christ-centered school. Small or large donations will allow us to meet our goal of continuing to provide an SDA Christian education to students in Battle Creek, regardless of their families’ resources. Your financial support will also allow BCA to transition into a financially self-sustaining school, as BCA is currently in the process of developing Adventist-centric local businesses with the goal of funding student tuition.
Please check back regularly for updates on how your funds are directly improving the lives of underserved students at BCA. We will also keep you updated on our sites about BCA’s transition to a financially self-sustaining school, which will allow BCA to close our tuition gap permanently and provide valuable services to the Battle Creek community.
We look forward to sharing with you the positive impacts your generosity has on the lives of our students. You are our partners in continuing the Seventh-day Adventist heritage of preparing students for success in this life and in heaven!
