Beats By Girlz is a non-traditional, creative and educational recording-arts campaign designed to engage girls, women, and gender expansive individuals to explore and learn music technology through education, mentorship, leadership, opportunity, visibility, and community building. We work towards closing the gender gap both in the classroom and the industry by forging a path to both destinations.
We have always run off the generosity of others. Since our first class in 2013 at the LESGC in New York City, we've seen over 2,000% chapter growth. Thus far we've been able to provide free programing to community members who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it and our mission is to continue doing so.
And the beat goes on... last year we served 600 people (at physical locations), but this year will be a lot bigger. Even through quarantine, we have seen exponential growth with online learning.
BBG.tv is an online platform that started as a weekly Twitch broadcast to showcase womxn and gender expansive creatives (primarily BIPOC) in the music industry. We've hosted livestream workshops on beatmaking, remixing, branding, and social media branding strategy, to name a few.
As BIPOC womxn ourselves, the BBG.tv team wanted create a virtual space where other BIPOC womxn and gender expansive music producers, audio/visual artists, sound engineers, musicians and other creative technologists can showcase their amazing work.
The money we raise will go to paying our BIPOC presenter doing quality education/instructional work, compensation for 1 Project Manager and Work Mentorship Program, for 1 Technology and Social Media Consultant, sponsorship mention on social media announcements and during livestream, and expanding and sustaining exposure of more BIPOC womxn and gender expansive professionals in the industry.
The last piece of the puzzle is paying our teachers for their time which we feel is extremely important. There aren't enough women working in this field, so employing and valuing them is a high priority for us.
Beats By Girlz has been a passion project and a labor of love, as we have never monetized our efforts. We feel that each community has a right to own the change they create and our goal is to give them what they need in order to do that, then step aside to let them do the work.
In order to make it happen, we need your help. Every dollar helps and we are so grateful for your support and the immense amount of help we have already received from our various partners, teaching artists and community members.
