Bringing music back to my daily practice
As many of you know, the past year has been a pretty hectic one for me---between finisihing my PhD, moving across the country, and bringing a new baby into the world this fall, a lot has been going on. As I finally settle back into something of a daily routine, I've just started to realize how much I've missed playing trombone throughout the past few months.
So for the next 30 days, I am committing to incorporate daily trombone practice into my morning meditation routine. My intention is to treat this as a sort of experiment, to feel into what it's like to bring the daily, focused attention that informs my sitting practice to exploring my development as a musician.
One part of this challenge that is especially exciting to me is that this will also allow me to connect "in spirit" with all of you who are supporting my path---and benefit BPF at the same time!
Here's how it will work:
Every morning, after my morning sit and musical warmup routine, I will check this page to see who has donated. Your names, comments, and anything else I know about you will inform my performance of a brief, improvised trombone melody that I'll record and send just to those who donated in the past 24 hours. So you'll get a unique document of the process---and a token of my gratitude to you for being an important part of it. Please feel free to be playful with your comments!
Also, you can order one of these lovely BPF T-shirts as a perk when you donate $30 or more to my page until August 31. This fall fundraiser is the only way to get your hands on one this season.
Thank you for supporting this effort! I can't wait to share my musical practice with you as we support the work of this incredible organization.
Yours in the spirit of trombonistic liberation,
