We are excited to announce that EMA will be launching its first annual Basketball-thon in April. This event will be a celebration of EMA’s culture, as well as an opportunity to open our doors to others and share why EMA is such a special place for our children.
This 12-hour event will take place on April 5th, 2020, at Urban High School gym.
The competition will consist of 3 divisions, 12 teams in each, competing in 3v3 games that last 20 minutes per game. Each division will last for a total of 4 hours. Every participant and team in each division will be guaranteed 6 games throughout the first 2 hours. The top 4 teams will compete for the championship in the final hour. Each division will have a free-throw and 3-pt contest during the third hour.
We highly encourage your child or children to participate! Important: We encourage students to recruit friends and teammates (especially those who have not experienced EMA) who are passionate about basketball and share EMA’s values.
Thunder (3rd - 5th grade) 8 AM - 12 PM (12 teams, 4 players per)
Lightning (6th - 8th grade) 12 PM - 4 PM (12 teams, 4 players per)
Storm (9th - 12th grade) 4 PM - 8 PM (12 teams, 4 players per)
The coaches will assign players to each team - 12 EMA student-athletes will be chosen as their team captains.
EMA is leveraging GoFundMe Charity, an online platform, to administer the Basketball-thon’s information, registration, and fundraising.
Participants will be directed to use this platform to raise funds to support EMA’s Need-Based Financial Assistance Program Fund whose proceeds enable young leaders from all socio-economic backgrounds to access our community.
If your son or daughter is interested in participating, you may register them by visiting the online portal event page.
Register using the Early Bird Registration before February 29th, 2020 to be automatically entered into the Basketball-Thon prize drawing!
At the end of each division's time slot, each team will nominate one team member to represent their team in a division-wide free throw contest and 3-point contest. Additional prizes will be available for teams that win each contest!
EMA student-athletes will serve as their team’s captain. Each student will be encouraged to recruit one outside student not yet enrolled in EMA. Teams will include 4 players with the potential to have additional players from outside of EMA. Team captains will be required to recruit players based on EMA’s values and are responsible for their team’s behavior throughout the event. Bracket matchups will be announced on Saturday morning before the event.
Teams will be highly encouraged to use this platform to raise funds to support EMAs Need-Based Financial Assistance Program Fund, designed to further enable leaders from all backgrounds to have access to EMA's community. Donation sponsors may use your personal registration link to contribute to your fundraiser.
Additional prizes will be announced for the top 3 individuals and the top team that raises the most money through EMA's online portal prior to 11:59 pm on April 5th, 2020.
