I am running a 70 mile ultramarathon on September 14th to raise money for New Jersey Search and Rescue (NJSAR).
I started volunteering with New Jersey Search and Rescue (NJSAR) two years ago. We provide highly trained volunteer search personnel throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and beyond, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We do not charge for our services. It's an all volunteer organization with no established funding. In order to raise money for the organization, I am participating in one of the events they cover.
About the Run
The Shawangunk Trail Run is a 70 mile ultramarathon. Although I've done ultramarathons before, this will be by far the hardest:
- It's 20 miles longer than anything I've ever done
- It starts at 6:30 pm, which means I'm running through the night
- It's self supported - I need to carry everything I need on my back
- It's a trail run
Covering this run was actually my first mission and my first rescue, as I helped walk out a runner with a sprained ankle.
The money I raise will help the team cover overhead costs and purchase badly needed equipment. NJSAR is a 501(c)3 organization, so your contribution is tax deductible.
