Our Story begins back in the Summer of 2018, when a few of us were introduced by our friend Jay McEvoy to this almost dream like wiffleball tournament down in Tampa Florida. We had seen the pictures of the tournament online for a while, but this is when we introduced to the whole nature and purpose of these events. After looking more into Slam T1D and Type One Diabetes itself, we decided to head down to Tampa from our Lovely and Snowy Canada to volunteer at the Sam Fuld's Tournament. With none of us having T1D or living with anyone with it, this event was a huge eye opener into the disease itself, how T1D is managed, and most of all how strong and welcoming the community was!
After the tournament we decided we were going to head back to Tampa the following December to make a team of our own! Sadly we were just informed that the Sam Fuld's Tampa Tournament will not be going on this year. So here we are, about a month and a half out from the Vermont Classic getting our team together and trying to raise some money for this great cause!
With our team being mostly from London, Ontario, we decided that having Banting in our name would be a really good fit seeing as we are home to the Banting House, and the Flame of Hope which are all tied to Sir Frederick Banting and his co-discovery of insulin.
We really appreciate anything you can donate towards this awesome cause :)
