Boston Area Gleaners is securing a new home to get more food to more people.
Your gift of $160 will fund 200 square feet of our new home!
Since 2004, the Gleaners have worked to fill a critical gap in our food chain—between the more than 30% of crops that go unharvested in farmers' fields and the now 1 in 6 Massachusetts residents that lacks access to healthy, affordable food. After 15 years of growth and 9 million pounds of nutritious food distributed for food-insecure families, the Gleaners have outgrown our original headquarters.
In response, we need your help to purchase Stonefield Farm—a historic Acton property—as our new, permanent home.
This purchase will provide ample space for our operations, increase food distribution by 4.5 million pounds annually (an additional 18 million servings!), and ensure that over 50 acres of agricultural land and open space are protected from residential development—permanently.
Over the past several months, we've explored every avenue for fundraising. On June 21st, the Town of Acton approved our proposed Agricultural Preservation Restriction, providing us 1.2 million dollars towards purchasing the farm and placing the entire property under conservation. We now have less than a month left to secure the remaining funding required to make the full purchase.
This crowdfunding goal of $84k represents 20% of the remaining $420k needed to permanently purchase Stonefield Farm by the end of July—please consider making a donation today to close the gap and invest in the future of the local food system.
Your gift of $16 will fund 20 square feet of our new home. Your gift of $160 will fund 200 square feet, bringing us that much closer to our goal.
We deeply appreciate the continued support of our community over the last 15 years, and look forward to many more years of working together toward a just, equitable, and sustainable local food landscape.
