If it isn’t one thing, it’s another. Just as we were adjusting to the Covid-19 restrictions – the need for passes stamped by the Mayor to allow the employees to come to work, for example – here’s Tropical Cyclone Amanda with proof we can’t ignore the fact that many of the dog pens need roof repairs. And all this rain certainly makes the working day more difficult – although sliding around in the mud can occasionally provide a bit of a laugh perhaps for those watching a colleague slither onto his backside. Some of the dogs seem to have fun in the rain, too – at least, those not huddling in the corners of their pens away from the leaks in the roof. A perhaps more serious side to the situation is the loss of jobs due to the Covid-19 restrictions. AWARE is trying to do what we can by taking on some temporary extra hands. And of course you can’t feed your dog when you’ve lost your income, so we’ve also had a few more admissions than usual. Plus of course the 8 puppies dumped inside the Main Gate in a cardboard box. This is the current picture, and we are appealing here for the $3000 we calculate we’ll need for the roofing and the other extra expenses facing us. On behalf of all the animals and the staff: we wish you well, and THANK YOU for all your support.
