Support Foothill Family's Back to School Initiative: Backpacks for Brighter Futures
Foothill Family is a non-profit located in Pasadena, California that empowers children and families to achieve success in relationships, school, and work through community-based services that advance growth and development. Last year we provided mental health and social services to over 25,000 families throughout the San Gabriel Valley, and are considered a front-line and essential service during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
For children and families in crisis who come to Foothill Family for treatment and healing, going back to school in the fall is usually difficult both emotionally and financially. In addition to the normal stress our client families experience the COVID-19 pandemic has added additional elements of uncertainty and worry around providing basic needs for their children.
This year, more than ever before, it is imperative that we are able to provide our young clients with the proper tools they need to succeed during the upcoming school year.
Started in 2001 by the Friends of Foothill Family, the Backpacks for Brighter Futures program provides backpacks filled with books, crayons, pencils, markers, paper, and other supplies to 1,000 young low-income Foothill Family clients each year. Thanks to the generosity of local volunteers and donors, Backpacks for Brighter Futures has grown from serving only children from the Pasadena Unified School District to a comprehensive effort reaching students from elementary, middle, and high schools in Pasadena, Duarte, El Monte, Pomona, West Covina, and surrounding areas. Making a difference for families in need, our Backpacks for Brighter Futures program brings together the generosity of local individuals and corporations willing to bridge the gap for local children.
