Help fund the printing and delivery of the first 500 copies of a bilingual children's book based on the true story of the beginnings of Books for a Better World.
La mochila de sueños - Backpack of Dreams is the true story of how one woman, Kae Robb, was inspired to bring the joy of reading to children. Kae believed that all children should have access to quality books. Twenty years later, Books for a Better World continues to carry out her vision. Illustrated by Jan McLaughlin, we hope that this story of carrying out a project to help others will inspire kids to see their own dreams as attainable - with the help of passion, dedication, and teamwork.
This book is bilingual in Spanish and English at a 1st/2nd grade reading level, but is appropriate for children of all ages. We are using Amazon's Kindle Direct Printing to independently publish the book. Most of the illustrations and text were completed during the summer of 2020, and we sent out for a printed proof on Nov 10. We hope to order our first printing of 500 books by Dec 1st in order for US orders to arrive by the holidays. We plan to deliver 250 copies of this book to schools in Central America during the summer of 2021 and/or 2022.
Every $10 donation allows us to deliver a book to a school library in Central America. You will also get a shoutout on our social media!
For every $20 you give, you can also receive a printed copy of the book delivered to you in the US.
If you give $250 or more before Nov 25, you will also get a SPECIAL THANK YOU in the printed copies of the books.
*Within a week of your donation you will be contacted so you can let us know how many books you would like us to send you, and where we should send them.
*For donations made by December 1st, books will be shipped by Dec. 5 to arrive before the holidays.
*Donations/orders can be made on this page until Dec 31st, after that the book will continue to be available to purchase on amazon. com
About Books for a Better World
Books for a Better World is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that partners with schools, mostly in rural areas of Central America, to create libraries or to add to existing library collections. We buy and deliver story books to schools that are often in remote locations where resources, as well as reliable mail service, are not always available. We send volunteers with the books to ensure delivery, as well as to engage the students and teachers who receive them.
This fundraiser includes the approximate cost of printing and delivering the first 500 books - 250 to Central America and 250 to our supporters in the US. Any extra funds raised will go towards buyingand delivering more books for school libraries in Central America.
