Walk to the Beat of My Heart
That’s the day , after years of advocating and taking no for an answer that we were given a Diagnosis. #coarctationoftheaorta #bicuspidaorticvalve
You see we were BLESSED with 2 children affected by a form of Congenital Heart Defects. We were at a Cardiology visit for both kids. Addison’s ASD did not need an intervention but when we got to Ayden the look on the nurses faces gave it away. Bringing in a Doppler , trying and trying to find a pulse below his waist, the elevated blood pressures on his extremities.
My heart knew it . I took my nurse hat off that day and was just a concerned mom that day. I thought I had mentally prepared myself for that day but the moment the doctor told me... I fell to my knees and felt the floor was coming undone from under me. ( I remember this day , as if it was happening right now)
I cried from anger but also happiness that day. Our son finally had a diagnosis and we were going to ensure he had a better quality of life.
Ayden underwent heart surgery on 8/13/2018 to have his severe coarctation of the aorta repaired. Although, to many he is " repaired " the truth is that there is NO CURE for CHD. He and Addison will need cardiac care lifelong and will continue to fight CHD with the support of everyone that lobes them.
CHD chose the wrong family. we are HEART strong and will continue to #conquerCHD together. ❤️💙

Nearly 40,000 infants in the U.S. are born with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) every year. CHD is the most common birth defect and the leading cause of infant death due to birth defects. Conquering CHD-Illinois is a non-profit with a mission to conquer CHD. We are Conquering CHD through education, support, research and advocacy. But we are unique in our approach – encompassing the lifespan, encouraging transparency, and meeting families where they are.
