Her Story: Jazmine was my best friend and she died of Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 25. She was the Allyson Whitney Foundations first grant recipient and sole reason as to why I began volunteering for this wonderful organization. I am now the Director of Charity Running and after seeing many people through their training and fundraising all for young adults with cancer, the universe has bigger plans for me. The 2020 Big Sur International Marathon falls on Jazmine's birthday this year. This is my opportunity to do something that she will never be able to and in return pay it forward to more young adults faced with the same financial burdens that Jaz also faced. I was planning on going this alone because who would be crazy enough to do this with me, but my AMAZING husband is jumping in with me and together we are working to rid the world of a far too common disease CANCER.
I have come to a decision that might be the hardest physical thing I would ever try. I want to show everyone that if you try hard for something you can accomplish it. I’m going to run the Big Sur International Marathon in April 2020. I’m running this with my amazing wife Melissa DiCostanzo, for the Allyson Whitney Foundation in honor of Jazmine Fuentes. My wife has donated endless amounts of time to young adults with cancer and the Charity Running Program is her labor of love. I want to show everyone that I support her and will make this crazy attempt with her. This will be a first for both of us and the goal is for us to finish together.
I’ll need everyone’s support both emotionally and financially in order to meet my minimum and be able to participate. The Allyson Whitney Foundation provides direct support to young adults with cancer and is an all VOLUNTEER organization. I’m always proud to help the organization and to watch my wife grow within it.
Please help me achieve our goal so that we can complete the marathon together and accomplish one of the hardest physical tasks I may ever try. I will make posts showing my progress in the training to be ready for this crazy idea. My goal is to finish, I don’t know how long it will take but we will finish together.
