Who is Avie:
The playground is being built in memory of Avalynn Wallace (aged 7), daughter of Nicole and Louie Wallace.
Avalynn, age 7, was called to heaven in October 2019, following a grueling 3 year long struggle with AML Leukemia.
Her strength inspired the Wallace Family and our entire community to create Avie’s Place.
Through Restoration Ministries (Tax ID#: 35-2495765) of Oroville CA is developing an inclusive playground experience that will provide recreational and active-living opportunities to every child in our region, including those with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities.
Avie’s Place The 65,000 square foot, Americans with Disabilities Act certified playground, will feature a range of installations that promote spinning, sliding, rocking and sensory engagement for children of all abilities and ages.
Scheduled for opening in April of 2022, the playground will sit on a 91-acre plot of land on the Oro Bangor Highway in Oroville. The property is owned by the Church and used extensively for outdoor services, community celebrations and our endurance event program.
Avie’s Place will accommodate a range of Church activities, including retreats and fun events for handicapped patrons. It will also be open for ongoing use by children and families across our region.
We have selected the architectural firm, Melton Design Group, to spearhead design and development of the project.
A Community Need
There are NO OTHER parks in the 22 County region north of Sacramento (representing 42,000 square miles and 1.7 million people) that have been purpose-built for use by children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
In addition to providing inclusive recreational opportunities, the project reflects a significant need for a modern playground facility in Butte County.
Although our region has many large and beautiful parks, most lack recreational infrastructure. Other parks are increasingly occupied by the region’s growing population of homeless persons, discouraging their use by children and families.
Almost 19% of the entire population of the County, for example, is currently classified as living in poverty. In the Chico area, this rate is closer to 25%.
Father’s House Restoration Ministries views the Avie’s Place project as a unique opportunity for renewal and improvement across Oroville, Butte County and our surrounding region.
Once completed, the project will:
- Deliver ongoing recreation, fitness and active living opportunities to all children (as well as seniors, veterans and other adults with restricted mobility)
- Raise the quality of life in our community and act as a symbol of what can be accomplished through a community-focused partnership.
Father’s House Restoration estimates that it will cost approximately $2-million to realize its vision for Avie’s Place.
To date, we have raised more than $50,000 from a crowd-funding campaign conducted in Avie’s name. The land on which the playground will stand has also been donated.
To secure the balance of funds, we have recently launched a targeted fundraising campaign to source contributions from leading individual, businesses and foundation donors across our region.
We are also engaging with our partners and stakeholders throughout California – and beyond – to gain their support for the project.
