Help to Build Awareness of the Niagara Escarpment (a.k.a. Wisconsin Ledge) and its Wineries
The federally recognized grape growing region known as the Wisconsin Ledge American Viticultural Area (AVA) has been in existence since April of 2012. The Niagara Escarpment Resource Network (NERN) has been a partner with Trout Springs Winery in obtaining this national designation and is always looking for opportunities to promote and market the AVA, while also providing opportunities for additional education and awareness about its geologic significance and resources.
Our proposal to erect a monument sign, showcasing the Wisconsin Ledge AVA map and its associated wineries and vineyards, has recently been approved by the Brown County Board in December of 2020. This monument will be built at Way-Morr County Park in Southern Brown County, which lies proportionally in the epicenter of the Wisconsin Ledge AVA.
Main Goals of this Campaign:
1. Bring awareness to the existence of the Wisconsin Ledge AVA and the specialness of this Federal designation.
2. Increase knowledge and recognition of the unique landscape that contributes to each winery’s high-quality products.
3. Improve awareness of what the Niagara Escarpment is and the sensitive nature of its environment.
The estimated cost of building and erecting this monument sign is $10,000. A majority of the 24 bonded wineries that lie within the AVA have pledged donations to help defray the cost of this project.
In order to meet our fundraising goal, we are now seeking contributions from the general public. Your donation will directly support this project and NERN’s broader efforts to strengthen our economy while protecting its precious resources. Thank you!
Niagara Escarpment Resource Network is a proud partner of Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership (LNRP).
