Our fundraiser ends on January 1, 2020.
Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera has worked for 20 years to raise awareness about the conditions of social and economic injustice along the Texas/Mexico border. This year, as part of our 20th birthday celebration we have set a goal of raising $2,000 to continue our efforts in supporting community-driven resistance to injustice through transnational solidarity and fair trade. Our organization provides individuals with the unique opportunity to travel to towns on the Mexican border and meet with women who work in U.S. owned sweatshops. Through these experiences, individuals on this side of the border, become knowledgable of the effects of trade deals, learn about the living and working conditions of women workers, and come back inspired to continue the fight towards social justice. The money we raise through this campaign will help Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera and the CFO to ensure that we can continue providing communities on this side of the border the opportunity to attend delegations to Mexico and that the CFO continues empowering women to learn their labor and human rights.
Aside of the solidarity delegations to Mexico, Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera also hosts an Annual Women & Fair Trade Festival that hosts artisan producers from women’s cooperatives from all over the world. Women and their representatives gather in Austin to meet local buyers, enjoy local musicians and celebrate cultural exchange. This community event celebrates the rich cultural diversity of our society, and represents an alternative to corporate globalization. Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera also hosts an annual International Women's Day Celebration and various educational forums for people in our community to learn about topics like migration, militarization and economics.
