Austin Partners in Education (APIE) has supported students who face immense systemic barriers since 2004. Each year we recruit and train 1,000+ volunteers and hired staff to work with 2,500 Austin ISD students. These community members show up for their village, helping to close the achievement gap created by income inequality and address the need for an educated workforce. APIE programs are agile and can readily adapt to the district’s evolving instructional delivery models. Our programs are:
· College Readiness: academic support for students to meet college readiness standards, allowing access to Early College High School or Career Launch Schools
· Math Classroom Coaching: academic support and STEM career awareness for middle school math students by trained community volunteers
· Mentoring: volunteers meet weekly, one-on-one with students serving as positive role models
· GEAR UP: tutoring for a cohort of students in math and reading over seven years as part of Austin ISD’s federal grant, currently in year 3
APIE’s innovative programs occur at critical steps in a student’s path to graduating high school, college enrollment, and finding a rewarding, financially-stable career.
