Early in my career we participated in a “White Elephant” holiday activity every December.
Each participant was required to search their home for an unusual, unwanted gift to pass along.
Every gift was wrapped beautifully and brought to school for group sharing. Players would pick a number out of a hat to see who chooses their gift first. As the players picked a gift, they would open it for all to see. At this time, they could choose to keep it or swap for another opened gift. The last participant would have the final choice to pick from all the opened gifts.
This is how I came to treasure Aunt Millie’s dress. When I first started at the Bayville Schools,
Mrs. Fran Verplank was the nurse at Bayville Primary School. She touched my life in many
everlasting ways… For those who never had the pleasure to work with her, she is responsible for me meeting my husband, Tim. Tim’s mother plays “Bridge” every week with Fran (even to this day). This dress was Fran’s white elephant gift that I have kept and have held sacred for all these years. Every Field Day, Aunt Millie comes to visit on
Spirit week for “Wild and Wacky” day.
In many ways this dress reminds me of all the awesome lives that have touched my heart in so many different ways. Now that this school year is coming near to ending, I would like to hold a “Silent Auction” on behalf of all our special friends and family that have been touch with the long haul of fighting breast cancer. We have all known so many
here right in our own “Bayville Family.”
As I reflect on my retirement with two very close colleagues and dear friends (who have fought the battle) whom I have spent most of my career with, it is definitely the right journey for Aunt Millie’s dress!
Please join the fight and make a pledge one more time this year for a “LEE DENIM” Day. Place our pledge in this box and then follow the web page below to make your donation. Millie’s dress will live forever and be passed to the highest bidder for years
to come!
Long live all our “Aunt Millies” and let’s win The Fight!
with love,
Aunt Millie
