It has been a tumultuous beginning to the new decade for the Iranian American community. Hundreds of U.S. citizens of Iranian heritage have been detained for extended screening at border checkpoints and their allegiance and faith questioned.
Farhad, a US citizen for over 40-years, was stopped at the airport and taken to a room for further questioning. Bijan was stopped at the border driving back from Toronto where he went to conduct business. Many families were stopped at the US-Canada border and held for 12+ hours; their personal belongings and cars searched without explanation. Iranian students with valid visas are denied entry upon arrival at US customs - forced to give up their educational dreams.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Iranian Americans are reporting an increased level of discrimination, hate crime, and a heightened sense of insecurity. We are stepping up to protect our community’s civil liberties and rights.
With your contribution, we will be able to build Rapid Response Teams ready to be deployed to support the Iranian American community in major cities and airports. The teams will include attorneys, translators, and volunteers.
This will feature a tracking system to follow individual cases and help rapid response team members with the necessary information. It will also enable us to proactively inform policymakers and demand answers and change from the administration.
The funds raised will be used to create the infrastructure and the necessary teams on the ground. It will also be used for logistical expenses and the crucial educational programs to train and update volunteers to be ready for these types of situations.
At PAAIA IA-100, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, we believe in strict transparency and the report of funds raised and expensed will be published.
