In anticipation of Autism Awareness Month in April, I am raising money to fund a future autism service dog through BluePath, who expertly trains service dogs to assist children on the autism spectrum.
I began fostering young adult dogs in training through BluePath 3 years ago at the age of 11. I'm currently fostering my 4th dog in training, Zappa (AKA, Zappa Dappa Doo). Each dog that I have fostered holds a very special place in my heart. They come into my home as a dog I know nothing about, but leave a life long best friend.
Sammy was the dog that started it all - literally. He was my very first foster dog and also part of BluePath's very first litter of puppies! Although Sammy was career changed to be a pet dog, he taught me more than any person ever could, and that I am thankful for.
My 2nd pup Sonny, was the literal mold of a service dog. With exceptional manners and the ability to know when you were sad or unwell, made him the incredible service dog that he is.
Moving onto pup number 3, Jacey (the service princess). She had all the smarts in the world and was the dog that I connected with the most. Her loving, independent, and princess-like personality challenged me, but brought us closer, allowing me to give her more guidance to becoming an autism service dog for the most perfect little girl (they are now princesses together).
Last but not least pup number 4, Zappa. Going from the independent princess, Jacey to a little ball of energy that Zappa is was definitely a big adjustment, but I love him like crazy. He is super special, coming to us thinking the world was so scary and is now maturing into a confident little dude shows me that hard work and dedicating my days to these pups pays off. We have high hopes for Zappa's future as the person-loving, sweet little man that he is.
I hope to continue this journey with BluePath by raising enough money to fund a future autism service dog that will hopefully change the life of a child in need. This money will support the dog for the first 18 months of their life before they are placed with their forever person.
Thank You :)
