My mother has traveled to Malawi several times, volunteering with Ministry of Hope. I like competing in triathlons. Putting our heads together it made sense to get involved with AGE Africa’s Tri for Malawi program. This year, we aren’t doing a triathlon, so I don‘t get a chance to catch up to everyone else on the run, which is definitely my strength. But the cause is good, so I’ve signed up to chase after some talented and fast bikers.
“What cause?” you ask. Well, the goal is to help young women stay in school in Malawi. In my opinion this is a great place to start in order to better face a great multitude of challenges in Malawi. Need more smart doctors and nurses to deliver health care - educate them. Need engineers and entrepreneurs to help boost the economy - educate them. Want to cut down on child marriages and teenage pregnancies - educate them. School is a powerful tool to help break the cycle of poverty.
Help me help the young women of Malawi. Give what you can. Share this with your rich friends. Check in on me via Strava to make sure I’m training enough to not die half way through the ride. Pray. Be encouraging. Ask my mom about her trip to Malawi this summer. Give what you can (Geoff - you said that one twice!)
