The Humane Society of Wicomico County in an open-admission shelter that provides temporary shelter to homeless, injured, or stray animals in our county.
On Tuesday, January 5th, a Good Samaritan brought a 12-week-old female Pitbull puppy into our facility. Before coming to our shelter, the puppy suffered injuries consistant with an at-home ear cropping job.
This sweet girl who we are now calling Athena, is currently under medical treatment including antibiotics and pain medicine and is being closely monitored by our staff to determine future surgery.
As a small, local non-profit, we rely on donations from the community to continue our life saving work. Any unused funds from Athena's campaign will go directly toward medical needs of other animals that come through our doors needing them most.
Athena was found on Catherine Street in Salisbury, Maryland. If anyone has any information on the owner of this puppy, we urge you to contact the Humane Society at 410-749-7603 or Wicomico County Animal Control at 410-749-1070.
**Athena is currently being held under stray hold for 6 days as required by county law and is not currently available for adoption. We are not looking for a foster or rescue for this dog and any applications submitted before she is available for adoption will not be considered.
