Funding will be deployed to purchase a food delivery van called Eat Better Van for our Health Question Box; this van will be used to reach neighborhoods in the Oklahoma City area to recommend a plant-based diet.
Areas in Oklahoma with low-income and low-vehicle access are food deserts.
We plan to drop off healthy plant-based meals to individuals that cannot afford them. One of the significant food deserts in the area is in northeast Oklahoma City, this area is predominately African American and has some of the highest rates of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and hypertension and recently the only grocery store in the area closed. There are more than 11,000 people in this population. A Table in the Wilderness plans to deliver healthful food to at least 100 individuals or families in this area along with health education, literature and plant-based cooking classes.
