Thank you, for visiting our fundraising page.
Due to the recent stay-at-home order issued by the State of Maryland in response to Covid-19, Aspen Hill Co-operative Nursery School closed its doors on Friday, 13 March. Without monthly tuition income, the threat of cancelled summer camp, and lost end of year fundraising opportunities, the school is under significant financial strain, the effects of which will likely carry into next year. We need your help.
The school board and director are working hard to ensure that our wonderful teachers are paid through May and June, and that basic operational costs (such as rent, phone, internet) are met.
We really hope that this fundraising campaign will help see us through this difficult time, by replacing some lost fundraising opportunities this year.
A large collection of story-telling and activity videos have been created by our pre-school teachers and are available on the school Facebook page. If you have enjoyed these, or simply wish to support a much loved nursery school, we welcome your donation, and offer our sincere thanks.
What fundraising opportunities have been lost?
Each year our largest fundraiser is a potluck and silent auction held during the month of May for new and current families. This is typically held at the school and brings a huge boost to our cash flow through the summer months, and a much needed cushion for start-up expenses (renewing insurance policies, replenishing supplies) in the Fall.
Summer camp is also an opportunity for us to stay connected with families and provide a valuable service that also helps to support our school.
Are we still collecting monthly tuition payments?
Monthly tuition costs were cut for the month of April by 50%, to reflect the reduced service we are able to provide with a closed school premises. Tuition for May is always paid upfront at the beginning of the school year as a deposit for securing a child's place. Therefore, each May we rely on the prompt and complete payment of tuition deposits by current and new families that will be joining us for for the next school year.
What are our teachers doing now?
Teachers continue to connect with their classes through other means. They have been working hard to create distance learning take-home packets each week, recording and uploading daily videos to the school Facebook page, and hosting weekly video calls with their classes.
How will the money be used?
All donations will be used to pay the teachers' May and June salaries, the school's rent, and supplies for the distance learning take-home packets. If there are any donated funds left, we will use those funds to offset the expenses for opening school next year, i.e. insurance payments and supplies.
We understand what an uncertain time this is for all our families, and sincerely appreciate donations in any amount. Please feel free to share this page with family or AHCNS alumni who may be interested in contributing.
