When my father was diagnosed with an aggressive, rare lymphoma in the summer of 2018 and rapidly lost all mobility in his lower body, I promised him that every step I took would be for the steps he could no longer manage on his own. He passed away on December 26, 2018, and I joined Ainsley's Angels in the aftermath of his passing.
The mission of Ainsley's Angels is not only to ensure that" everyone can experience endurance events" but also to "build awareness about America's special needs community through inclusion in all aspects of life." This mission really resonated with me after caretaking my father at the end of his life and being, literally, his legs for so much of that period. I now have a true passion to walk and run for those who cannot, and to support inclusion, mobility and acceptance for all.
I've run MCM many times before, but this year will be the most special, because I will be running it in my dad's memory and - as a charity runner for Ainsley's Angels of America - for the benefit of many more people who will be able to enjoy the joy of inclusion in a sport and community that I love so much. And I am especially excited to have the honor of running with Mikie, a very special Athlete Rider, who is a beloved member of the Ainsley's family here in the DC area!
Please join both Mikie and myself in supporting this very special organization and a cause that is so close to my heart. No amount is too small, and your contributions will make a profound impact in the lives of so many. Thank you.
