Archdiocese of Newark Parish Support Initiative and Mass Livestream

Office of the Archbishop
Message from Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R.
Newark, NJ, USA

"In every way I have shown you that by hard work of that sort we must help the weak, and keep in mind the words of the Lord Jesus who himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35)

Welcome. During this challenging time in the life and mission of the Archdiocese of Newark, our parishes face increased risk of financial shortfalls due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and its effects on everyday life. With a heavy heart and to proactively avoid further spread of sickness, I have suspended the public celebration of Mass until further notice.

The first place people often go in time of need is the local parish. Under the current conditions brought on by the Coronavirus ( COVID-19) pandemic, parishes are limited in the services they can offer to the faithful.

We are coordinating with the team at GoFundMe Charity to provide one online platform for the faithful to support continued outreach and the critical needs of their own parish communities and other parishes in need. The faithful may also contribute through their usual channels (e.g., envelopes, other online giving, Annual Appeal). Together we will navigate unchartered waters, provide assistance to those in need, and secure the road ahead for the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Newark.

I have temporarily waived the usual archdiocesan assessment in support of this initiative. Please consider a tax-deductible contribution to your parish on the parish’s GoFundMe page, linked below, or to the Parishes in Need Fund, which will be used to support those communities struggling to pay their employees, conduct outreach, and cover church utility bills through this crisis. Contributions raised through the parish GoFundMe page will benefit the individual parish. We have also launched the Student Support Fund to help families struggling with tuition payments and food security. GoFundMe charges no platform fees, leaving only a small fee charged per donation to cover payment processing, in-line with the amount charged by many other online-payment services.

Our worship avoids becoming empty narcissism if it is based on a real love for God that is manifested in a love for our neighbors, especially those who suffer.

Thank you for your generosity, and please be assured of my prayers for you and your families as together we weather this storm and prevent the suffering of those most vulnerable among us.

Please scroll down for the Holy Week schedule and the livestream video for all liturgies.

Please click the "Parish Livestreams" button at  the top of this page for access to an Archdiocesan-wide schedule of livestreamed celebrations of Mass and other opportunities for Worship hosted by individual parishes.

Sincerely yours in Christ the Redeemer,

Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R.
Archbishop of Newark
