Did You Know?
Statistically, 1 in 3 Asian children living in New York City will not graduate high school on-time or at all.
Many Asian youth in New York City come from immigrant families, where parents can struggle to best navigate the American education system for their children.
Children often have limited exposure outside their neighborhood and in many cases, face language barriers that can impact their confidence in school, both socially and academically.
What We Do
Apex for Youth serves students from 1st to 12th grade in New York City. Our suite of programs begin in elementary school, providing students with structured academic and social activities to improve their communication skills and provide additional tutoring and mentoriship in preparation for standardized exams.
Apex volunteers guide and support youth with the goal of boosting their confidence, getting them college ready and eventually seeing them give back to the community in their own ways.
I currently volunteer Saturday mornings at one of the elementary school in Chinatown to tutor 3rd graders in English and Math skills.
This is part of Apex's "Elementary Test Prep Program", which prepares students for the statewide standardized exams that determine placement in New York City public middle schools.
Donate today! I'll be running a half-marathon in the middle of winter.
