I've decided to run the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon on March 15th, 2020 under Apex For Youth.
I previously volunteered with Apex as both a high school mentor and afterschool teacher. As a volunteer, I was able to make an impact on Asian and immigrant youth, guiding my mentee as he navigated academics, career aspirations, and social topic. I not only made real change in my mentee's life, but was also made a lifelong friend as well.
I believe Apex is an amazing nonprofit that has a positive impact in NYC's Asian youth community. As a sponsor for this organization, I will need to raise $1000 in order to participate in this race. All money will go to provide mentoring, academic assistance, and social activities to Asian and immigrant youth in NYC.
Founded in 1992, Apex for Youth delivers possibilities to underserved Asian and immigrant youth in NYC.
Apex for Youth currently serves students from 1st to 12th grade in New York City. Our suite of programs begins in elementary school, providing students with structured academic and social activities to improve their communication skills and provide opportunities to interact with adults. In the middle school and high school years, Apex encourages more personalized one-to-one mentoring to build deeper relationships with youth and address their specific needs. High school students also can access more rigorous academic assistance from Apex to prepare them for college.
Through youth developing strong relationships with positive role models who volunteer their service, Apex’s goal is for its youth to become Apex volunteers themselves in the future: confident, college-ready individuals who want to give back to the community.
