Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to my fundraising page for the Samaritans of NYC's 7th Annual Walk to Prevent Suicide and Save Lives.
The walk, along the lovely Hudson River Park in Lower Manhattan, will focus positive attention on a public health problem that is too often sensationalized and considered taboo. This is the mission of Samaritans, the only community-based organization in the NYC area devoted solely to helping people in distress and preventing suicide, the 10th leading cause of death in this country.
The Samaritans of New York is an incredible organization. I'm so inspired by the work they do and the services they bring to the people of NYC. So many people are positively affected by the work of Samaritans everyday, and I hope I can do whatever small part to support their efforts.
Funds raised from this event will go towards Samaritans 24-hour crisis hotline, whose volunteers have responded to over 1.3 million calls; a public education program that has trained over 40,000 health providers; and support groups that have helped thousands of people who have lost loved ones to suicide.
With 1-in-5 Americans experiencing depression each year, most of us know someone who struggles with mental health-related problems, yet very few of us make charitable donations to support suicide prevention services. So please contribute to my efforts—as well as countless Samaritans friends and volunteers—in support of this wonderful organization that helps people during their most difficult times. Every donation is 100% tax-deductible.
Over the past 3 years, I've participated in this event and the support from my friends and family has only increased. Please consider donating if you can, or if not please make sure to pass the page along to people who can. Thank you all so much for your support!
