On January 6, 2019 our family was forever changed . At just 30 years old, my cousin Steven Pollard was tragically killed in the line of duty, while responding to a car crash on the Mill Basin Bridge.
For years, I have had the honor and priviledge of attending events for Answer The Call. As the wife of a member of the FDNY, and coming from a family of firemen, this cause hit close to home. I just never thought it would hit this close.
Last year, I had the chance to run this very race for Answer The Call. It was not just about running, it was about my family, about honoring my cousin, about getting out and literally running through my grief, while raising money for an incredible cause. Being able to do this again, I consider myself lucky.
Thank you for helping me ANSWER THE CALL!
The mission of the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund is to support the families of New York City Police Officers, Firefighters, Port Authority Police, and EMS Personnel who have been killed in the line of duty. When these brave men and women make the ultimate sacrifice to protect our city, we believe it is our civic duty to support the families these heroes have left behind. Our mission is to reassure these families that will never forget them or the sacrifice made by their loved ones. We currently provide annual financial assistance, host special gatherings, and offer a network of support to approximately 600 families. Our goal is to raise enough funds to enable us to increase the annual support we provide to these families.
Our first responders come running whenever we need help. It's time we do the same for them.
