Many of you have witnessed the magic of Mountain Road School through a child, relative, or friend. We all have seen the transformation that occurs when children are allowed to be themselves, to play and explore nature, to be honored and educated as an individual, rather than as a statistic on a high-stakes test. The teachers, staff, and board of Mountain Road school place these priorities above all else, and have worked hard over the years to allow as many children as possible to attend and experience this magic, regardless of how much they can pay. In fact, Mountain Road gave over $100,000 in financial aid last year alone.
This past year, Mountain Road went through its own unique set of challenges. We were affected, as were many independent schools, by the vaccine law that went suddenly into effect this summer. We were made aware of renovations that needed to happen to our building that meant a great deal of work needed to be done in a short amount of time. We faced some challenging transitions. Still, we persevered through all of this, and successfully started the 2019-2020 school year with a dedicated faculty, new rules and procedures in place, and the determination to continue to make this school the best it can be for every family in our community.
It is for this reason that we need your help. This year, more than ever before, we need contributions from every member of our community: those of us who experience the Mountain Road magic every day, and those who have witnessed it in the past. Your contributions could send a class on a special field trip, help buy new supplies for classrooms, develop our building in ways which benefit the whole community, and more. Your gifts this year will make the greatest difference, and so I ask that you dig deep, and that you remember how truly unique this school is. Please do what you can to help it flourish.
I encourage each of you to take a look for yourself at the wonderful learning that is happening this year at the school. Each clan is engaged in its own adventures, from the ecological survey that the Gray Wolves are creating, to the explorations of language the Black Bears embark on each day. The River Otters have blossomed with reading and writing skills, and the Chickadees are safely held and supported as they begin their educational experience. Nature provides each student the opportunity to deeply, respectfully, engage with the living world. Art and music classes provide avenues for each student to develop creatively, and the theater program is already preparing for our spring performance.
In closing, this school is nothing without the teachers, the students, parents, family and friends who love it, and support its goals. We ask that you give and continue to help our school thrive. Donations can be made by mail or online at our website, www.mountainroadschool.org.
Each gift means the world to this school, and this school means the world to us.
