This is a fundraising page that raises funds for my opportunity to work with a cohort of fellows in a yearlong, non-profit fellowship called PULSE, located in Pittsburgh, PA. PULSE specifically partners us with a local non-profit and we work 35 hours a week with that non-profit as well as attend PULSE-run seminars on the ethics of non-profit work!
I am excited about the PULSE program because I’ve learned a ton about social justice-related issues in my education. I hope to apply what I’ve learned, creating tangible programs and services for people on the ground. I am still dreaming of attending graduate school and teaching in a professorial setting. However, for my first year out of college, I believe it will be beneficial to take a break from academia and reconnect and relisten to people’s daily realities. Because, as I learned more and more in academia, I realized that my family and friends have already taught me a lot about what matters in this world. My smart women influences (my mom, sisters, grandmas, and aunts), working-class farming grandparents, queer-centric friends, and mental-health-positive family members each taught me lessons about big issues like patriarchy, classism, homophobia, and ableism—even if we did not use such big words. So, as you are and continue to be my teachers, I hope to connect with you and Pittsburgh-located people like you to create programs that benefit people minoritized by any kind of big system. Please feel free to give me any and all advice, stories, or experiences you have related to the social justice issues you face! And, if you have available funds, consider donating to this crowdrising page, which will fund our related non-profit projects as well as living and travel expenses.
