It's come to this. We must ask for your help to fix a condition that now seriously affects our animals' lives. Although our top priority has always been to allocate 100% of all donations to the direct care and well-being of our animals, we must plead for the cost of repairing our 1,000-foot-long driveway. It provides the sole access to the shelter - and now, finally, its hazardous state has begun to impact the quality of life of our dogs. With years of constant traffic and minimal maintenance – because more would have been at the expense of animal care - the driveway has become rutted, eroded and full of moonlike craters. This winter, with unprecedented snowfall, it became an out-and-out danger - and a great expense to plow. Advanced erosion has destroyed the roadway's grading, causing flooding in the shelter basement (just look at our video) and in and around the building. This is a direct threat to our heat, water and electrical systems.
Through prior competitive grants that we have sought and been awarded, our dogs have benefited from the wonderful renovation of our interior spaces. But these grants do not cover exterior work and now, our concern has had to shift to the driveway and fenced enclosures of the play yards, compromised by standing water. As nurturing as life in our shelter is despite these challenges, extended outdoor activity and free play greatly enhance the dogs’ physical and emotional health and wellbeing while they wait to be adopted. We, and more importantly, the dogs, face a serious problem if we go another winter without making critical repairs, including grading, resurfacing and fence repair. We have a reasonable estimate of $30,000 to do this work. Please, can you help with your donation of $25, $50 or any amount you can afford to help us reach our goal? You can make a concrete difference! We cannot make it without people like you, who open their hearts and show that the love of a dog is well-deserved! Just head to the Donate Now button to give!
