At last! The ‘Find The Dog’ nightmare is over! Without the fantastic dedication, perseverance, and amazing powers of concentration of Mario and his team of youngsters from Sumpango we would still be forced to endure the kind of brain-busting mental gymnastics normally reserved for deciphering ancient Babylonian hieroglyphics, say, or grasping the true meaning of Fourier transforms, simply in order to find the right pen with the right dog who was due for her or his latest multiple shot. Without going into more detail, well-meaning but lateral-thinking volunteers had completely destroyed our carefully constructed system of pen-numbering, and we were all but lost. Now at last a form of order has been restored.
Positive progress is good. And by golly, there is more progress to be made! Which is, of course, where you come in.
The focus of this appeal, then, is on the coming Rainy Season and the improvements to the animal accommodation that need to be made before it starts. We’re talking about making sure that the floors are sound and the doors in good condition, close properly and are as waterproof as possible. Also that every pen has enough wooden pallets for the occupants to lie down in their own sleeping space in as much comfort as we can manage. Above all, many roofs either need serious repair or to be replaced. With US$3000 we reckon we can ensure that all these dogs old and young will be quite comfortable and very glad to be off the streets, with somewhere safe to sleep and regular daily meals.
They’re looking to you to hear their howls, and to make sure they’ll get through the Rainy Season warm and dry. “Don’t worry”, we say to them “Your friends the AWARE donors hear you and will not let you down.” They’re sleeping with smiles on their faces already.
