First, I hope everyone is staying safe and not too home bound but enjoying the safety of staycations.
Second, thank you for taking the time to read and consider our campaign. Like many worthy causes we are in real need.
The COVID-19 pandemic crisis has hit us especially hard. It's difficult enough to get donations for reptiles but especially with so many deserving and needing it also. Even if you don't like reptiles (we have mostly tortoises) all animals deserve our help and compassion.
We have had no income from programs, adoptions or events since the 2nd week in February. Plus all the rest of our events have been cancelled thru the end of this year. However, it has been thru wonderful supportive friends of International Reptile Rescue & High Desert Tortoise Sanctuary that we are barley keeping afloat.
We no longer have the extra funds for gas to meet or pick up animals, so the owners have to meet or take them to the closest foster/volunteer.
This is the first time in our existence, since we started in the 70's, that we are having to refuse animals. There is no money for vet bills so we can't take in any medically needy animals. Also, our enclosures are full so they have to come with their own.
With the help from the wonderful friends of IRR and HDTS the critters are still eating, pooping and happily oblivious to the world pandemic.
With Winter around the corner and no income in sight our critters need you desperately to help thru this pandemic. We want to put up a greenhouse to accommodate the big tortoises. We have part of a frame but need the rest including the plywood for the sides and fiberglass over the top. It will need a good overhead heating system, electric critter blankets, a lg fridge/cooler for produce, chest freezer for rodents and pork chops for the spoiled gators, (freezer & fridge/cooler need to be energy efficient for cost & efficiency), 50 lb bags of Mazuri tortoise pellets, orchard grass pellets, the list goes on and on.
There are many ways to help, make financial donations, gift cards to Lowes, Home Depot, Rainbow Mealworms, Rodent Pro, Walmart, Amazon, lots of gas cards, etc.
Hopefully we will be getting our Amazon WISH LIST added here in the next few days. Be sure to visit our FB page International Reptile Rescue.
Thank you all for your support, kindness and encouragement thru the decades. Please help us so we can continue to help the animals.
