As Omar Little once famously said on The Wire: “A man gotta have a code.” We couldn’t agree more.
And our code is simple: leave no cat behind. Since our founding in 2016, we’ve made it our mission to rescue the neediest cats in the toughest areas of NYC.
The problem, though, is that saving little guys like these is expensive. Sometimes really expensive. So we need your help to continue fighting the good fight…
THE FIGHT SO FAR
Little Wanderers is an all-volunteer, non-profit rescue group that—on average—adopts out roughly 75 - 100 animals per month.
90% of those who we adopt out are cats who are rescued directly from the streets. And that, more than anything, is what separates us from other rescue groups (most of whom, by the way, also do great and important work!); but, unlike them, we target the cats who would otherwise be overlooked—the injured, the ignored, the cats whose pain is all but invisible to the world. Cats like Houdini…
HOUDINI’S MAGIC MOMENT:
Early last month, we received a tip that there was a stray black-and-white Maine Coon in need of immediate medical attention. Without missing a beat, one of our intrepid Rescuers was on the scene to get this little darling the helped that she required.
And within hours, this little sweetheart—who we dubbed “Houdini” for his ability to cheat death (and his charming personality)—was on the path back to good health. The problem, however, is that this path is often a costly one. For example: in Houdini’s case, it cost nearly $3,000 (and that’s with the discount that we are given by the incredible team at The Animal Medical Center).
Needless to say, we’re fighting an uphill battle.
And the stakes have only gotten steeper during this difficult time of COVID, where many other rescues have fallen by the wayside and we’ve had to work even harder to accomplish our mission. And it pains us to say this but: our mission is in jeopardy unless we’re able to afford the medical costs of darlings like Houdini—who, by the way, is not only now living a healthy life, but a HAPPY LIFE too! After his emergency treatment.
Houdini found a forever home with a loving family in North Carolina. And, well, just take a look at how well he's doing.
But remember: Houdini is just one example. He's just one of the 75 - 100 animals that we find a home for each month.
And in order to keep doing what we’re doing—to keep living by the code that inspires our organization—we need your help. Any amount of help.
Seriously: even $5, $15, $25, $35, $45, $55, $75, $100 or more adds up from a handful of cat aficionados can help put a cat like Houdini on the path to health and happiness.
Lastly…a big THANK YOU to all of you who have already supported us during this extremely difficult year.
We know that times are tough these days (for all species). But your generosity is literally what makes our mission possible. And in these all-too-often grueling times, your generosity restores our faith in humanity and inspires us to continually do better.
