Uncle Steve, my father's youngest brother born with Downs Syndrome, had a major impact on my childhood and continues to impact me to this day. He came to many of my sporting events, and when I was old enough to drive, we would often go to the movies and share popcorn. He taught me patience, empathy and respect among many other things. There was nothing better than the unbridled joy he would share with me. I always treasured our time together.
I know how important independence was for Steve. How excited he was to go to school and be around his friends. To my knowledge Steve never attended Wawbeek or Respite, but I know if he would have, he would have enjoyed it immensely! Just like many others have enjoyed attending camp since 1922.
I have been on the Board of Easter Seals Wisconsin since around 2013. I serve the organziation in memory of my Uncle Steve to honor the impact he has had on my life and the person I am today.
Each year I choose to donate to Easter Seals Wisconsin because I know they are good stewards of the funds. I have heard testimonials from those impacted by our services and I know the dollars are being used wisely. On average, 97 cents of every dollar donated goes directly into programs and services we provide to indviduals in our communities. Please join me in making a donation to increase independence, maximize opportunities, minimize barriers and enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities.
