I know we recently ran a GoFundMe campaign back in July, and I remain tremendously grateful for all of your incredible support in allowing us to exceed our goal. As a direct result of your support, we were not only able to keep Film Society operations going, but also produce the 29th Philadelphia Film Festival this past October, delivering 120 new narrative and documentary feature-length and short films to the greater Philadelphia area and beyond via our digital streaming platform and at the PFS Drive-in at the Navy Yard.
Now almost 6 months later, however, our theaters are still closed and will remain so until sometime in the first half of 2021. Under normal circumstances, the Film Society generates approximately 70% of its annual operating budget from earned income, the majority of which is derived from film ticket sales and concessions, as well as membership and film-related programs and events. The COVID-19 pandemic has shrunk all earned income revenue to a small fraction of what it was previously, leaving the Film Society more reliant than ever on contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations.
Thanks to you, we’ve overcome this loss and made it through to the end of the year. But we urgently need your help again! That is why we have established this new GoFundMe Campaign, launching our Forward Fund with a targeted goal of raising an additional $30,000 by next Sunday, December 20.
Named in honor of one of the world's most beloved film characters, Rocky Balboa, who said "It’s not about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward,” this campaign is designed to help the Film Society 'move forward' through these next several months and into what will be our milestone 20th Anniversary year. The Forward Fund will also provide the necessary resources to sustain and deliver the new and innovative programming that have been put in place during the pandemic.
When you make a gift to the Forward Fund, you’ll be providing critical funding to not just help the Film Society make it to its 20th Anniversary, but you’ll also be helping to ensure that the Film Society is here to produce and celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Philadelphia Film Festival in October of 2021.
With your help and support, we can ensure the Film Society will make it through the COVID-19 pandemic and into 2021 to celebrate two milestone anniversaries and to continue to ‘move forward’ in its efforts to connect Philadelphians with film and film-related programs that inspire, educate, challenge and entertain.
