Andre Glaubke was a loving husband, father, and friend. After serving as a Norfolk Firefighter and Paramedic for 30 years, he became a full time employee at Sentara, continuing to help others. In April 2017, after a large mass was found in his groin, Andre was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma. Andre fought bravely and fiercely against this aggressive and debilitating disease. Within only a year and a half, he endured countless surgeries, radiation, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and a number of trips to Johns Hopkins University for a clinical trial. Throughout it all, Andre stayed strong. You would never hear him complain and he continued trusting in God. Andre, was a warrior and those who love him fought right alongside him. December 2018, while Andre was in the hospital, a group of people who loved him, his Warriors, walked in his honor at the Tacky Sweater 5K. When he saw pictures of the event and everyone who was walking in support of him, the smile on his face was unforgettable.
A few weeks later, on December 26, 2018, Andre lost his courageous battle and gained his angel wings. This year, we are walking for our angel. Andre was always an advocate for what he believed in, and dedicated his life to helping others. Now, we are his voice. Andre’s Warriors will walk again this year, so that EVMS can have the means for further melanoma awareness, education and research for all those fighting this disease.
