Dear friends, family, and colleagues,
You might ask yourself why we run, for the fourth time in 5 years, one of the toughest marathons in the world (at 5.5k feet altitude in Lewa, Kenya). We do this because we deeply trust Tusk's work.
Tusk combines education with wildlife preservation to make it sustainable. Raising funds for Tusk means not only fighting against the plague of poaching, but also building schools with dormitories for young girls so to avoid human rights abuses such as forced marriage. What makes Tusk special is believing that protecting wildlife generates resources to sponsor education, making it a win-win for local communities. You can see more about Tusk's work here.
None of the funds that you donate will sponsor our travels, and everything will go directly to Tusk, a very lean foundation that makes sure at least 80% of the funds reach the ground. If you prefer to donate on the Virgin Money Giving platform, which charges 2% fees vs 10% here, please follow this link.
As per the marathon itself, it is a very challenging but rewarding experience! You can see here the official video of the race, here a helicopter video on race day, and here Andrea running with a Go-Pro back in 2014.
We are extremely grateful to all of you who contributed to this cause, and a special thanks to those who have done this again.
Kenya, here we come!
Andrea & Rodica
