And Then’s misson is to help individuals with Autism and learning challenges find a meaningful purpose in life. Our goal is to help find the answer of what happens when these young adults graduate from High School.
You see, young KIDS with Autism and learning challenges grow up to be young ADULTS with Autism and learning challenges. It doesn’t go away nor does the need for help as they journey through adulthood. All the young adults I've worked with today, were once my students that I taught at the start of my career. I work with them individually to find their “thing” that they can do and be productive. Helping them turn their love or passion of something they are good at into something meaningful and fulfilling. It’s a beautiful thing to see happiness, purpose, and fulfillment in their lives!
My desire is to start a Day Program to help fill in this gap; where these young adults can come daily to work and begin to fulfill their purpose in life and have the opportunity to socialize and work in a small group setting. This will allow them to extend their work day which helps them have a meaningful and productive day, but it also allows their parents to know they have a place for their child to go while they are working to provide for their family.
We’ve been blessed with the help and support from the Turtle Wing Foundation which was started in memory of Jack Hooper after he unexpectantly passed away just shy of his 10th birthday. Jack had high functioning Autism and I worked with him since he was 4 years old. Today, Jack would have been finishing up his Junior year of High School and preparing for his final year of school. Turtle Wing’s mission is to help children in our rural area reach their full potential and now they have expanded to helping young adults too!
We'd love for your support as we work towards making this dream become a reality! Thank you!
