Shortly after settling in America I was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer. After two years of treatment I am thankfully getting on with life. I have been so lucky to have had great support not only medically but from family and friends. This has been invaluable and kept me pretty positive throughout my 'journey', underpinning my own goal that if life kicks you, let it kick you forward.
This year I have been tryng to pay back by paying forward and i'm keen to raise funds to support the Look Good Feel Better programme.
Obviously going through chemotherapy, double mastectomy, radiation, reconstruction and infections there were low times, not least when looking in the mirror. It wasn't so much losing my hair but having no eye lashes or eye brows for me brought the reality of cancer home. Maybe you think that appearance is the last thing you should be concerned about, but with everything going on inside your body that you can't control, looking normal and being treated normally was incredibly important to me. I didn't want to lose self esteem and step back.
Look good feel better taught me how to deal with these changes and in attending their group workshop I really valued connecting with other women going through the same experience within a positive, practical environment.
Just check out the video of testimonials here. They really reflect everything I felt and the benefits of the programme. I would love you to support me support them, or even just spread the word about the great work they do ! x
